STAGE BAND

The Stage Band is a select group of instrumentalists (sax, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, drums) specializing in the performance of classic and contemporary jazz.  The group of 18-25 students performs at jazz festivals, concerts and other various functions. The Stage Band performs medium to advanced level repertoire composed for the large jazz ensemble.  Stage Band rehearses Thursday nights from 6:00p.m. – 7:30p.m.  Membership is based on audition.  Specific details regarding auditions will be made available well in advance of the audition date.

ORCHESTRA WINDS AND PERCUSSION

This ensemble is organized to provide opportunities to instrumentalists in an orchestral setting.  It is open to all string players and auditioned incoming woodwind, brass, and percussion players.  Accepted woodwind, brass and percussion players are required to participate concurrently in the Concert Band.

PEP BAND

The Greeley Football Pep Band is a great way for our talented musicians to support our community and show school spirit.  Pep Band rehearses on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 2:45p.m. – 3:30p.m., during football season, performing at Saturday games.  The uniform includes the Pep Band polo shirt and jacket which is provided by the school.  Students receive free lunch at the games.  Participation is voluntary.  Students volunteering for Pep Band earn extra credit toward their ensemble grade. 

NYSSMA SOLO/SMALL ENSEMLBE EVENTS

Motivated High School Band members are strongly encouraged to participate in the NYSSMA Solo/Small Ensemble Evaluation Festival.  Extra credit toward the quarterly band grade will be given.  This participation may take the form of a solo performance or as a member of a small chamber ensemble.  Specific details regarding this event will be made well in advance.

HONORS GROUPS/YOUTH SYMPHONIES

Many honors groups and youth symphonies are available to High School Band members. There are groups, such as the NYSSMA All-State Band and Orchestra, New York State Band Directors’ High School Honor Band and the WCSMA Area All-State Band or Orchestra, to name just a few.  In addition, the Greater Westchester Youth Orchestra, Westchester Conservatory and Hoff-Barthelson Music School provide excellent opportunities for band members to further their performance skills, meet students from other schools and have a lot of fun playing their instruments.  Ask the Director for details regarding these groups or check out the websites listed at the end of this handbook.
