What is BlackBoard?
Blackboard is a program provided by the district which allows students to access course information.  Not all teachers use this program, but it will be used at least during 1st semester for all of my courses.

What information is on BlackBoard?
Under your child's general course page (107, 205, 207), students can access the following:

  • Copies of class notes
  • Homework assignments
  • Upcoming test and quiz information (dates and lessons covered)
  • Interactive calendar for important upcoming dates
  • Grading policies
  • Class expectations
  • My e-mail address

Under your child's specific class page (205-ABC, 205-DEF, 207-NOP, 107-TUV, 107-WXY), students can access all of their grades for the current quarter.  Only the person logged in can view the grades, so be assured that confidentiality is maintained.

Students are responsible for checking their grades on BlackBoard.  If there is a mistake, it is their responsibility to let me know ASAP!

How does my child get to BlackBoard?
Students can access the BlackBoard site through the Horace Greeley website, www.ccsd.ws/hg/HGweb/gweb5/home.php, and click the BlackBoard button on the left-hand side, OR the direct link is http://online.ccsd.ws/.  Students will use their login information to access the site.

How does BlackBoard help parents?
BlackBoard allows you to see what topics are being discussed in our courses and current grades.

Many times students will tell parents that their homework is completed, yet parents don't know what the assignment even was.  BlackBoard lets you see what has been assigned for each unit so you can see what has been assigned and aids you in monitoring completion of daily work.  Even if you don't understand the topic, still ask to see your child's completed homework (assigned on a daily basis!) to keep tabs on their progress.

An interactive calendar is also provided for each general course (best viewed under the MONTHLY format) which announces all upcoming tests and quizzes.  You may click on the test or quiz to get the lessons covered on that particular assessment.

An announcement page welcomes you to the course's BlackBoard site and all test or quiz dates will be announced approximately one week in advance.
