Notice
to all prospective debaters:
We meet Wednesday mornings, during Activity Period, in L building
(usually L109 or thereabouts). If you're seriously interested in
competing this year, it is mandatory that you don't miss any of the
Wednesday morning meetings, and to come to as many after-school meetings
as possible (after you all are taught how to debate, and we help you
write cases, there will be a couple of after school and/or weekend
practices so you can debate before you debate in the tournament. They
will be optional, but recommended).
The Wednesday meetings are extremely important for the first
month or so, so doing more than one club that meets Wednesday mornings
will be difficult. However, after that, you can rotate between two
clubs pretty easily.
In addition, the tournaments (which are against other schools,
where each debater debates one-and-one against another debater from a
different school; and each tournament has 3 or more rounds) are always
on Saturdays, so if you have a prior commitment that you cannot
ever miss, it will be difficult, if not impossible, for you to
participate this year. I know it stinks, but if you're really torn
between this and another commitment, talk to me and perhaps we can work
something out.
The
bright side to the work: our novice debaters always do exceptionally,
and we have dozens of trophies to vouch for that. Of course, the
more you put in, the more you get out.
We hope many of you will want to commit to joining the team.
It really is a lot of fun, and you get to meet and become close
with people from all grades within Greeley, and people from all
over the country. It requires some time commitment, and some
individual work, but it really pays off; I encourage everyone to come
the Wednesday meetings and check it out if you haven’t already.
Feel
free to call or E-mail me if you have any questions/concerns/whatever.
Thanks
and welcome again,
